Sliač Air Base (IATA: SLD, ICAO: LZSL), historically, Letisko Sliač ("Sliač Airport") or Letisko Tri Duby (literally, "The Three Oaks Airport") is a military airport in central Slovakia situated between the towns of Zvolen and Banská Bystrica and near the spa town of Sliač. The airport has one runway which is 2,400 m long (18/36).
The 51st Wing is the home base for all helicopters of Slovak Air Force, which also includes a helicopter repair company. The air base operates 19 helicopters, 10 Mil Mi-17 and 9 Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks. [74]

The town arose through a merger of two villages, Hájniky and Rybáre, in 1959 and was given the name "Sliač".However, both original settlements are much older. The Gothic church in Hájniky was mentioned for the first time in 1263 (when the territory belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary) and there is archaeological evidence of Slavic settlers living in the area since the 6th century.
