A single-action (SA) trigger is the earliest and mechanically simplest of trigger types. It is called "single-action" because it performs the single function of releasing the hammer/striker (and nothing else), while the hammer/striker must be cocked by separate means. [1]
The action is automatically propped open after the firing of the last round in the magazine. The hammer, can be safely lowered by the decocking lever. Takedown is accomplished by removing the magazine, locking the slide open, and then turning down the takedown lever. The slide, barrel, and recoil spring will then slide forward off of the frame. [2]
First round trigger pull to be double action, followups single action; Slide stop that locks slide open when the magazine is empty; Durability of 5000 rounds with no more than 8 malfunctions; Safety System: Thumb-safety system ambidextrous; De-cocking device to safely lower a cocked hammer; Firing pin block when the hammer is lowered
The design utilizes a double-action/single action trigger mechanism, meaning that the first shot is fired with long double-action pull, with following shots fired in single-action. [3] The 457's external hammer omits a thumb spur, thereby reducing the risk of being caught on clothing during unholstering. [3]
The trigger comes from the factory with a 24 newtons (5.5 lbf) single-action pull, and is capable of both single-action and double-action. Pulling back the slide sets the hammer backwards and downwards to its single-action position, making for a very short trigger pull, with minimal take-up. The double-action pull is longer and more stiff.

The Beretta 92G-SD and 96G-SD Special Duty handguns are semi-automatic, locked-breech delayed recoil-operated, double/single-action pistols, fitted with the heavy, wide Brigadier slide, chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge (92G-SD) and the .40 S&W cartridge (96G-SD), framed with the addition of the tactical equipment rail, designed and manufactured by Beretta.
The pistol features an unusual "fast action" trigger mechanism which allows the hammer to be decocked while still keeping the mainspring compressed. The "fast action" (also known as Triple Action, and most recently known as Double Action Plus+) mode allows the trigger travel of the double-action mode and the trigger weight of single-action mode.
