Apr 18, 2019. #1. I keep seeing threads about the Savage 10 ML II, and how it is - or was - the only production muzzle loader in which it is safe to use smokeless powders. Then I read about them blowing up, and how Savage discontinued them. I found this article, which seems to be by a writer who has done a lot of experimenting with the rifle:

Also in the paragraph above the load data it says Win. 571 can be used although no load data is given.. In the Savage 10 ML II owners manual it lists appropriate powders as, IMR 4759 ...
Use a Harv crushed rib sabot. With H4198: 250 gr - 74-78 gr H4198 - easily hits 2,800 fps at the upper end. 300 gr - 68-72 gr H4198 2,600 at upper end. 325 FTX - 66-70 gr H4198 - 2,500 at upper end. Index your sabots and get 2 lands on each petal. These will all load very tight.

Dec 20, 2023. #1. Decided I wanted a Savage 10 ML II. Haven't been able to find one locally or at gun shows. So that leaves online. I found one on Gunbroker in which from all the pics it seems to be in great shape. Since I have no experience with the Savage 10 ML II, I was concerned with the pic of the breechplug. I've attached the pics here.
