The 00 is more common and usually less expensive (esp since 000 are usually 3" shells). Either will work fine... 000 gives you more recoil, less pellets, but slightly bigger. Based on cost and ease of practicing more often, I would just go with 00BK 2.75" shells for HD in a house - reduced recoil loads as suggested above if cost is neglegible ...
Suprema OOB 12ga 2 3/4" 9 pellets = This 9 pellet load hit point of aim at 20y on a 12" x 16" steel target and all 9 pellets landed on target, recoil was stout suggesting it is a true HV load, function was 100% out of 20" Benelli police M1 semi-auto with cylinder bore. It is a good load and is presently priced at $9.95 for box of 25 at my Walmart.

I've loaded 00 buckshot in Win AA hulls(old red) and in Remington Nitro 27 hulls, all tapered and 2-3/4". I just used birdshot load data for a one ounce shot charge using 8 00 pellets, each 00 buck pellet weighs 1/8 ounce. Some did OK and the rest did not.

Flatten buck pellets do not fly straight and this destroys your pattern at longer ranges. I second prior post suggesting patterning your load / choke before you bet your life on it.
Check out my video to see the range test I conducted: Long story short, a compelling case can be made for the PDX1 Defender shells instead of buckshot. The pattern is consistent (and a hair wider than standard buckshot), the knockdown power is significant, and the cost is reasonable ($2.50 per round).

Hey, just worked up this load to convert wally world #8 birdshot to buckshot, I've found that 6 00 buck .34" and 6 #3 buck .25" will fit and = 1.1 ounce. Have to compress the wad a bit (used the lee handloader) 3 layers 2 00 and 2 #3. randkl. Reply Like.
I did some patterning with my Mossberg 18.5" barrel 590A1 with cylinder bore. Here are two pics of Federal Vital-Shok 9 pellet 00 buckshot. Both shots are from about 20 yards away. Right now it has a bead sight and no rear sight. Pic #1 has an 8" spread from the bottom left to the top right. The big hole is just the wad.

Sure one would give up accuracy versus rifled slugs but the versatility, imo, is better to have. Athanasius and TSnyder5133.
