The campground at Cowans Gap State Park opens in mid April at the beginning of trout season and closes in mid December at the conclusion of deer season. The campground has 224 sites, in two areas, that have enough room for any camping equipment from a tent to a large RV. The area has modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers.
A campground was located in the eastern section of the park elevated approximately 140 feet (43 m) above Moon Lake. [3] The campground contained individual sites and tent/trailer sites. Some sites had been equipped with electric service. Others could accommodate larger RVs. Later, a Nature Education Center was built.
The CCC, invited to Pennsylvania by Governor Gifford Pinchot, worked to clear the forests and streams of brush. They also built many of the facilities still in use today at the park, including several tent camping areas, two small dams and lakes, two group camps, picnic areas, and extensive roads and trails throughout the park.
