This is something that I am fearful of…I have always been fairly thin and I too have gained weight (about 15 extra pounds) so I am worried that having the surgery will increase the wieght gain and I will not be able to lose it no matter how much I diet and exercise.
I'm 33 and had a unilateral oophorectomy about 9 months ago. After the initial post surgery weight loss I began to gain weight very rapidly over the next 8 months; I've now gained 17 lbs. I was in good shape, active and ate decent before my surgery and was able to maintain or lose weight easily.
rapid weight gain after surgery/soy related? No Uterus - No Ovaries - No Hormones - Managing Menopause
Gained 20 pounds since my surgery last fall. This past month, I committed to getting 12,000 steps a day in addition to weight training 3 days a week and kick boxing twice a week and….I GAINED 2 pounds. It’s so depressing. It’s so hard to stay motivated. The two pounds is NOT muscle gain. I know enough about strength training to know that.

I have a small waist and, pre surgery, a very flat stomach. I had no complications with the LSH, so I was hoping to avoid weight gain. The first day I was home, I weighed 139, which was 14 pounds!!! My doctor said that it was because of the gas and fluids they had given me. Today, I was down to 132.5, but that is still 7.5 pounds of weight gain.
I had my surgery almost three years ago and have had alot of symptoms and ups and downs. The past few months have been really bad. I have severe abdominal bloating (I look like I am about six months pregnant) and have gained about 10lbs. That makes my total post surgical weight gain up over 30lbs.
Weight gain is not necessarily a side effect of the patch itself, but can be a side effect of a hormone imbalance. Too much or too little estrogen can can cause weight gain. As can a thyroid imbalance. While I don't use the Vivelle Dot, I have used hrt since my surgery and have not gained any weight.
