Daniel chapter 2. 1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him. 2 Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams.
Daniel 2 tells how Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, in which God provided an overview of world events in the millennia yet to come. Character Backgrounds. King Nebuchadnezzar reigned from 605 to 562 B.C., greatly expanding the Babylonian Empire, conquering Jerusalem and deporting the Jews in the process.

Daniel explains the meaning behind the statue: The various materials symbolize four kingdoms, each less glorious than the last. The rock, not made by human hands, represents God's everlasting kingdom which will eventually crush all human kingdoms.
Chapter 1 concludes with Daniel serving the king. Chapter 2 illustrates just how well he served him. It shows us wisdom, well-honed human relations skills, great courage, and a glimpse at Daniel as he begins to exercise the powerful prophetic gift bestowed upon him by God.
Daniel sees that “they will mix with one another in marriage, but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay” (Dan. 2:43). The meaning of “mix with one another in marriage” is unclear, but seems to refer to intermarriage between ethnicities, perhaps specifically royal intermarriages, creating instability in the empire.
Daniel knew how by prayer to converse with God, and he found favour with him, both in petition and in thanksgiving, which are the two principal parts of prayer. Observe, 1. His humble petition for this mercy, that God would discover to him what was the king's dream, and the interpretation of it.
