The gang is arrested, but one man manages to escape, taking the necklace with him. The man is later arrested but the necklace is not found. Mr Goon and the children are now searching for the missing necklace before the last remaining gang member finds the necklace. The Find-Outers later find the necklace, and the last man of the gang is arrested.
The Five Find-Outers are having tea at a local gymkhana with Inspector Jenks and his god-daughter Hilary, when a robbery occurs in a nearby house. The robber disappears from the scene of the crime without a trace and when the burgled house turns out to be Hilary's, the children have the perfect excuse to investigate.
The Find-Outers (Fatty, Larry, Daisy, Pip, Bets and Buster the dog) are desperate for a new mystery to investigate. While they wait, Fatty has been using his newly learned skill of ventriloquism for pranks, especially against his nemesis Mr Goon, the village policeman.
