In 2006 the South African Constitutional Court Trust assumed ownership of the project. The website at the time of this transition carried approximately 700 judgments from South Africa and Namibia. SAFLII is currently in operation from within the Department of Public Law at the University of Cape Town and has been there from December 2013.
The Superior Courts Act, 2013 restructured the High Courts into divisions of a single High Court of South Africa, and also provided for the creation of divisions for Limpopo and Mpumalanga, which had previously fallen under the jurisdiction of the Gauteng High Court at Pretoria.
When the Union of South Africa was formed in 1910 this court became the Orange Free State Provincial Division of the Supreme Court of South Africa. In 1997, on the adoption of the current Constitution of South Africa, it became a High Court, and in 2009 it was renamed the Free State High Court by the Renaming of High Courts Act.
