Westwood Community High School is a Canadian public senior high school located in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is part of the Fort McMurray Public School District. [1] The school is situated in the community of Thickwood and currently accommodates approximately 1000 students. It offers Advanced Placement courses. [2] [3]
However, the school officially opened on September 22, 2011. École McTavish is named after Douglas Craig McTavish and Cassia McTavish. Douglas Craig McTavish was the first Fort McMurray Public School Board Superintendent. He was hired to build the first school and accomplished this by using pine logs from the surrounding environment.
The district was created in 1994 under section 223.3 of the School Act under the name Regional Authority of the North Central Francophone Education Region No. 4 (since changed to Greater North Central Francophone Education Region No. 2). It is one of four French school boards in Alberta. [4]
