New York's 39th congressional district was a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in New York. It was created in 1913 as a result of the 1910 U.S. census . It was eliminated in 1983 as a result of the redistricting cycle after the 1980 census .
The largest communities in the district are Monroe and the City and Town of Newburgh. [1] [4] The district overlaps with New York's 17th, 18th, and 19th congressional districts, and with the 96th, 98th, 99th, 101st, 103rd, and 104th districts of the New York State Assembly. [5]
The Palmer House hotel garage, Majestic hotel, and the Great Northern Office building were demolished in 1961. [1] Tenants occupied the new U.S. Courthouse, the first of the complex's three buildings to be completed, in 1964. The government began demolition of the old post office in 1965 to clear the site for the two remaining buildings.
