The Sidecar World Championship is an annual event held by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first World Championship tournament took place in 1949. As all other World Championships in moto racing, it consists of a series of races run throughout a calendar year in which the riders with the most accumulated points are awarded as world champion
Alain Michel (born 23 February 1953) in Montelimar is a French sidecar racer and motorcycle preparer. He is the only French World Sidecar Champion. The career of Alain Michel [1] began on 2 wheels 1972. He also won this year's Cup Four Seasons category on a Honda 450 and finished in second place in the championship of France 500 national.
Helmut Fath (24 May 1929 – 19 June 1993) [1] was a German sidecar racer and engineer. He won the Sidecar World Championship in 1960 and 1968. [3] His early racing was on BMW R50 sidecars with a chassis of his own design.
In 2016 Kirsi Kainulainen became the first woman motorcycle world champion, as passenger to Pekka Päivärinta. [6] However, in 2017 the engine capacity of F1 sidecars was reduced from 1000cc to 600cc. This was a conscious effort by FIM to attract more participation from racers who still preferred the traditional F2 chassis.

Pekka Päivärinta (born 1971) is a Finnish sidecar motorcycle racer, who with passenger Timo Karttiala, was the 2008 Superside FIM World Sidecar Champion. [1] Päivärinta rode a Suzuki GSXR1000 powered LCR as part of Team Suzuki Finland and is the first Finn to win a world sidecar title.
Eric Staines Oliver (13 April 1911 – 1 March 1980) was an English motorcycle racer best remembered as four-time Sidecar World Champion administered by the FIM, riding a Norton. His passenger in 1949 was Denis Jenkinson .
