He was strong proponent of Pakistan movement and after the Partition of India , he became a member of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan , and remained a member until his death in 1949.
Mahmud Hasan was born in 1851 in the town of Bareilly (in modern Uttar Pradesh, India) into the Usmani family of Deoband. [1] [2] His father, Zulfiqar Ali Deobandi, who co-founded the Darul Uloom Deoband, was a professor at the Bareilly College and then served as the deputy inspector of madrasas.

Mahmood Hasan Gangohi (July 1907 – 2 September 1996) was an Indian mufti, Islamic scholar and former Grand Mufti of Darul Uloom Deoband and Mazahir Uloom, Saharanpur. He was the most senior disciple of Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhlawi. [2] [3] [4] Among his notable disciples are Abul Qasim Nomani, Rahmatullah Mir Qasmi and Ebrahim Desai.
