The Genesis G90 debuted in South Korea on December 9, 2015 as the Genesis EQ900. Powertrains available included the 3.3T, 3.3T HTRAC, 5.0, 5.0 HTRAC.
The initial Genesis vehicle was marketed in South Korea as the Genesis G90, which is the brand's flagship model. [10] In late 2016, the brand launched in the United States with two models: the G80 (previously sold as the Hyundai Genesis), and G90. Genesis will offer the new 2023 G90 with a 48-volt hybrid system for its V-6 engine. The setup includes an electric supercharger that boosts the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 to 420 hp.
On November 4, 2015, Hyundai officially announced it would move the Genesis model to Hyundai's new luxury vehicle division, Genesis Motor. [ 6 ] [ 7 ] The 2016 successor to the Hyundai Equus was rebranded as Genesis G90 [ 8 ] (EQ900 in Korea until 2018).
