Brand was born on 17 September 1749, the eldest son of Thomas Brand of The Hoo, Kimpton, Hertfordshire and his wife Lady Caroline Pierrepont daughter of Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull.
