The township is in central Muskegon County, north of Muskegon, the county seat, and southeast of Whitehall. U.S. Route 31 crosses the township from northwest to south as a four-lane freeway, with access from Exits 118, 121, and 126. State highway M-120 crosses the east side of the township, passing through the community of Twin Lake.
Muskegon, the county seat, is 18 miles (29 km) to the west, and Grand Rapids is 27 miles (43 km) to the southeast. According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 36.4 square miles (94 km 2 ), of which 36.2 square miles (94 km 2 ) are land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km 2 ), or 0.57%, are water. Holton was platted in 1871 and named for Henry H. Holt, a Muskegon County delegate to the State Constitutional Convention of 1867 and later Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, 1873–76. He donated the bell to the local Methodist church. A post office was established in February 1872. [8]
Blue Lake Township is a civil township of Muskegon County in the U.S. state of Michigan.As of the 2020 census, the township population was 2,416. The township is in western Muskegon County, bordered to the west by Lake Michigan and to the south by the cities of Muskegon and North Muskegon.According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 18.7 square miles (48 km 2), of which 17.4 square miles (45 km 2) are land and 1.3 square miles (3.4 km 2), or 6.97%, are water.
