1890 home in Cedar Hill. Cedar Hill was founded circa 1846 by a small group of settlers from the Peters Colony. [5] They came from Kentucky, Alabama, and surrounding areas to arrive in the Dallas area of North Texas; 197 families and 184 single men settled in what is now Cedar Hill, making it the largest settlement in the area at the time.
Just southwest of Dallas is Cedar Hill State Park, maintained by the Texas Parks and Wildlife state agency. A 1,826-acre (7.39 km 2 ) urban nature preserve, the park is located on the 7,500-acre (30 km 2 ) Joe Pool Reservoir, and offers activities such as mountain biking, birding, camping and fishing; swimming is allowed at the swimming beach only.
