This makes her uniquely familiar with the role and expectations of our organization, and knowledgeable about the many issues facing the river. She holds a degree from Texas A&M in biomedical science and began her environmental career volunteering with Bat Conservation International at Bracken Cave.
As the oldest and one of the largest monitoring groups in the State of Texas, the River Rangers have collected and tested water quality samples along the San Marcos and Blanco rivers for 28+ years, monitoring the health of the river while alerting city and county officials to potential problems.

Every year, the SMRF recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution towards protecting & preserving the purity and flow of the San Marcos River for future generations. Friends of the River 2021: Scott Nicholson. Scott has called his work with SMRF to conserve recharge land “the most meaningful work I have done in my life.”
Restoring degraded or eroding river banks, removing invasive species from on land and in the waterways and putting in more native species, SMRF works with numerous volunteers to help restore the river and its watershed.
Working with a wide array of stakeholders with an interest in Texas' future water needs has been a key strategy for SMRF in its efforts to protect the long-term health and flow of the San Marcos River.
