The difference between the Auto Train and the other passenger services Amtrak took over from the now freight railroad was it began providing its service in the early 1970s, The thing it had in common with what would become Amtrak, is it operated its trains between its terminals on tracks owned by the freight railroads. The reason why the north ...
-On the Amtrak website's Auto Train page, every single time taking that train is mentioned, so is bringing a vehicle. Again, common sense would seem to indicate that bringing a vehicle is a required part of the trip, even if it's not exactly spelled out (well or at all) in any other documentation you can find.
My idea for what a possible Amtrak route between Atlanta and Miami could look like. Black dots denote possible station locations. I think it would be a big deal if such a route could be added because it would provide direct train service between two of the largest cities in the Southeast.
Oh wait - that's called Auto Train and it's literally attached to your car. OP, the Sleeping Car is comfortable and relaxing. You get on, have a steak dinner, go to sleep in your bed, wake up/shower, have breakfast, and arrive with your car.

My husband and I are moving from Florida to New Jersey soon and we are debating on driving up or taking the auto train to Virginia and driving the rest of the way. Covid still has me nervous about public transportation but it is a very long drive, longer than either of us have driven previously, so its a tough decision.
We are looking at taking the auto train from Sanford to Lorton for the first time in August. There will be 5 of us (2 adults, 3 kids - 6, 9, 12) so the cost of sleeping accomodations is prohibitive. This is a quick question for anybody who has used coach seating on the auto train. Would you recommend the upper level coach or lower level coach ...
