June 2011 #1. Anyone have a Danby freezer? I didn,t find too many complaints or trouble with thier quality or lifespan. Just ordered an 8.7 Danby chest freezer model DCFM246WDD that is energystar rated at 262 KWH per year. Think they are North American built in Canada which is fine with me. Anyone have good or bad experiences or coments on Danby?
Propane stove uses to much electricity — northernarizona-windandsun. Help! Propane stove uses to much electricity. Just found out this past weekend that our propane stove is pulling 17-18 amps at 24 volts to power the glow ignitor in the oven. We could not figure out what was using the power until I installed a Trace battery monitor.
I dislike inverters. I really dislike inverters. When I use them, i want it to be for luxuries or entertainment. I'd like to run all my refrigeration, pumps, fans and lights on DC. So far I found a 48 volt sunstar, a 48 volt sundanzer and lights with a wide dc voltage range are cheap and easy to find. Yes I know it costs more but I just don't ...
Re: Just how bad a small 'frige is Another one for the books: Old Admiral 15 cu. ft. chest freezer (came with the house).
We don't have a freezer yet, but probably getting a Danby 8 or 11 cu. Ft. chest freezer, that I'll later be converting to a fridge. But for now, I would like to set up a system powerful enough to run at full capacity as a freezer. The freezer consumes approximately 220kWh/year, or 610Wh/day. 1.how many of these panels will safely work with this ...
It seems to be about the same power consumption as the 1.1 cu.ft. unit I tested (also Danby) - only a larger refrigerator! This is slightly less than half the power used by the 16 cu.ft. Whirlpool at the cabin. And if that doesn't prove the point I don't know what would.
With bigger appliances like refrigerators and washing machines beware of those with electronic controls. Not lot of thought gets put into the power supplies for them, so they "see" low Voltage and don't work right. Usually it doesn't hurt them, at least not right away. They'll either work or won't.
I'm guessing 500ah of battery, about 2000w max inverter, and 6x180w solar panels. But that's my guess. Now obviously I'd make the heat propane, and use camper appliances of the same size instead of the stuff they have to save on power. Even so I'm wondering what your thoughts would be on the required power and setup to run one.
Danby makes a 17.7 cu.ft. freezerless refrigerator, but the coils on the bottom need frequent cleaning. I have a bad back- I can't bend over or get down on the floor to vacuum dirty coils, nor can I pull a fridge out from the wall to clean coils on the back.
I have a Danby oven that is about 15 yrs old, so probably pre China product. Depending on the size fridge, there are some variable speed Danfoss dc compressors available mostly for smaller marine type stuff. I am going to install a Danfoss dc compressor in a dorm fridge and see how it performs. So we'll see. I haven't really researched Sun Danzer?
