Austin Police Department (APD) is the principal law enforcement agency serving Austin, Texas. As of fiscal year 2022, the agency had an annual budget of $443.1 million [5] and employed around 2,484 personnel, including approximately 1,809 officers. The first jail in Travis County was authorized in 1847 and constructed on what is now known as the Old Courthouse block of downtown Austin. When this facility was destroyed by a fire in 1855, a new jail was built on the site the following year. This iteration of the jail and county courthouse lasted until 1906. [3]
