According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93.3 km 2), of which 33.3 square miles (86.3 km 2) are land and 2.7 square miles (7.0 km 2), or 7.46%, are water. [4] Most of the water area in the township is within Gull Lake, the southeast half of which occupies the northwest part of the township.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it.
