The park was created as an addition to the growing tourist site of Magnetic Hill, which already consisted of the hill itself, and the Magnetic Hill Zoo.Construction on the park commenced on August 12, 1986, and through the efforts of more than 600 construction workers it was completed in less than a year, opening on June 26, 1987.

The Magnetic Hill Zoo (French: le Zoo de Magnetic Hill, formerly the Magnetic Hill Game Farm) is a 16-hectare (40-acre) zoo located inside the Magnetic Hill Park, in Moncton, New Brunswick. This park also features the Magnetic Hill , Magic Mountain and the Wharf Village.
VIA uses in New Brunswick the Canadian National rail line, which enters from Quebec at Campbellton, stops at Bathurst, Miramichi, Moncton and Amherst, on its way to terminus at Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Trans-Canada Highway enters from Quebec in Edmundston, passes through Fredericton and Moncton and exits at Sackville on the way to Nova Scotia.
The park has a large (1.20 km 2) lake which is popular for kayaking and canoeing.The park is also used for hiking, mountain biking and snowshoeing in the winter. There are several historic displays within the park including a small museum consisting of a fully restored one-room school.

The park features a static display of a CF-100 Canuck fighter jet, an M4A3 Sherman Tank, the anchor from HMCS Magnificent and CNR locomotive 5270.
