The name "angel's trumpet" refers to the large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped flowers, 14–50 cm (6–20 in) long and 10–35 cm (4–14 in) across at the opening. They come in shades of white, yellow, pink, orange, green, or red. Most have a strong, pleasing fragrance that is most noticeable in the evening. Flowers may be single, double, or more.
One of the most prominent characteristics of B. versicolor is the presence of giant drooping flowers which hang upside down, which is where it gets its common name of Angel's Trumpet. The flowers are the largest of all Brugmansia at 300–510 mm (12–20 in) in length.
Brugmansia suaveolens, Brazil's white angel trumpet, also known as angel's tears and snowy angel's trumpet, [1] is a species of flowering plant in the nightshade family Solanaceae, native to south eastern Brazil, but thought to be extinct in the wild.
The pendent, tubular / trumpet-shaped flowers belong to the smallest of all Brugmansia at 15 to 22 cm (6 to 9 in). They also have the shortest corolla peaks at 0.5 to 1.5 cm (0.20 to 0.59 in). The flowers can be found in shades of red, yellow, and pink. [1]
Brugmansia insignis is a South American species of angel's trumpet with large, fragrant flowers. The IUCN has listed this species as Extinct in the Wild, [1] although like the other members of its genus its survival has been ensured by its popularity as an ornamental plant.
Since this still lacks scientific confirmation, rampant speculation continues about potential extra-terrestrial theories for these "trumpet noises." But don't count NASA as a UFO-doubter just yet.
Brugmansia × candida (syn. Datura × candida), the angel's trumpet, is a hybrid species of flowering plant in the family Solanaceae. [2] Its parents are Brugmansia aurea and Brugmansia versicolor, with both listed as extinct in the wild. [1] [3] [4]
