The 2024–25 Liga I, known officially as the SuperLiga, is the 107th season of Liga I, the top football league in Romania. The season will start on 12 July 2024. [ 1 ] The newcomers are Unirea Slobozia who are making their debut in Liga I and Gloria Buzău who returned to Liga I after a 15-year absence.

The change was made on 15 May 2006, and the Romanian Football Federation decided to also rename the lower leagues; thus Divizia B became Liga II, Divizia C became Liga III, and so on. [2] The 2006–07 season marked the 16th straight time a team from Bucharest won the championship, with Dinamo winning the title.

The Liga I is the top level women's football league in Romania. The champion team qualifies for UEFA Women's Champions League.. After the fall of communism, organised women's football started to take off, and the founded clubs were distributed into 2 leagues - Divizia A with 12 teams and Divizia B with 30 teams grouped into 3 series, following a tournament called Cupa Libertății. The league consists of 14 teams: twelve teams from the 2018–19 Liga I and two new teams from the 2018–19 Liga II. Teams promoted to the Liga I. The first club to be promoted was Academica Clinceni, following their 2–1 win against Argeș Pitești on 24 May 2019. Academica will play in the Liga I for the first time in their history. [10]
