Sidney Myer (born Simcha Myer Baevski (Russian: Симха Майер Баевский, Belarusian: Сімха Маер Баеўскі); 8 February 1878 – 5 September 1934) was a Belarusian-born Australian businessman and philanthropist, best known for founding Myer, Australia's largest chain of department stores.
Along with her son Carillo and brother Baillieu Myer, she established; Sidney Baillieu Myer AC [16] (Bails) (11 January 1926 – 22 January 2022) [17] m. Sarah née Hordern. Sidney Baillieu Myer was a co-founder and past president of the Myer Foundation. He was a Trustee of the Sidney Myer Fund from 1958 to 2001 and chairman from 1992 to 2001.
Sidney Baillieu Myer AC (11 January 1926 – 22 January 2022), also known as Bails Myer, was an Australian businessman and philanthropist. A member of the Myer family retailing dynasty, he was the son of Sidney and Merlyn Myer. He joined his family's company, the Myer Emporium, in 1949 and became its chairman in 1983.
Born in San Francisco, California on 7 November 1922, Neilma Baillieu Myer was the elder daughter of Merlyn (née Baillieu) and Sidney Myer. [1] The family moved back to Melbourne, Australia in 1929. [2] In 1952, following her divorce, she studied for a Bachelor of Arts in English literature [3] and creative writing at Stanford University. [2] [4]
He was president of the Myer Foundation 2004-2010 and was in 2008 Chairman of the Sidney Myer Fund, the Myer family's two philanthropic arms.
