Lake Chelan (/ ʃ É™ ˈ l æ n / shÉ™-LAN) is a narrow, 50.5 mi (81.3 km) long lake in Chelan County, north-central Washington state, U.S. [1] It is an overdeepened lake and resembles a fjord, with an average width of 1.3 mi (2.1 km). Near its upper end, the lake surface lies more than 6,600 ft (2,000 m) below peaks less than 3 mi (4.8 km) away.

The Golden West Lodge Historic District includes the Golden West Lodge (now the Golden West Visitor Center) and six log cabins around it in Stehekin, Washington.Built in 1926, the lodge used salvaged portions of the Field Hotel, demolished the same year when the level of Lake Chelan was raised.
It eventually evolved over time into the elegant Hotel Field, owned and operated by the early entrepreneur Merritt Field. In 1926, the hotel's time came to an end when a dam was built in Chelan raising the lake to a level that would eventually flood the ground where the hotel stood. Jack Blankenship was the last manager at the Hotel Field.
