Nile Southern (born December 29, 1960), is an American filmmaker and writer. He is noted for his book The Candy Men, a "biography of a book", about the writing and publishing of the comic sex novel Candy, by Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg. [1] He is the son of writer Terry Southern and literary editor Carol Southern.
[2] Hoffenberg said that he tried to interest Maurice Girodias, of Olympia Press, in Burroughs's Naked Lunch, but the publisher was initially not interested, though he published the book later. [2] Hoffenberg never had another writing success after Candy, unlike Southern, who became famous.
