Dog Island is located in the northwestern Florida Gulf coast, just 3.5 mi (5.6 km) off-shore from Carrabelle, in Franklin County, Florida. There is, by reservation, ferry transportation to Dog Island on weekends. [1] There are no stores, restaurants, or public restrooms on Dog Island. A hotel, the Pelican Inn, closed in 2016.

The Priory Church of St Peter with its monastery (Dunstable Priory) was founded in 1132 by Henry I for Augustinian Canons in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England. [1] St Peter's today is only the nave of what remains of an originally much larger Augustinian priory church.
