Gerald Lewis "Gerry" Caplan (born 8 March 1938) is a Canadian academic, public policy analyst, commentator, and political activist. He has had a varied career in academia, as a political organizer for the New Democratic Party , in advocacy around education, broadcasting and African affairs and as a commentator in various Canadian media.
He was found guilty on all counts on May 11, 2006. This was the second conviction for homicide of a Catholic priest in the United States ; Hans Schmidt , executed in 1916, was the first. On July 11, 2008, Ohio's Sixth District Court of Appeals reaffirmed his conviction, [ 9 ] and in December 2008 the Ohio Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal.
