Timothy Rhys-Evans MBE FRWCMD (born c. 1972) [1] is a Welsh conductor and best known as the founder and musical director of the choir Only Men Aloud! [2] and Only Boys Aloud. He also formed the children's choir Only Kids Aloud in 2012. [3] Rhys-Evans, from New Tredegar, was a vocal tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. [4]
Only Boys Aloud was founded in May 2010 by Tim Rhys-Evans. [1] Rhys-Evans, who founded Only Men Aloud in 2000, brought 144 boys onstage to sing with Only Men Aloud at the opening of the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale in 2010. According to Rhys-Evans, he intended to use this one-time event to gauge the level of interest in a Welsh boys' choir.
In these years, 2005-17, the Choir sang with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Chamber Strings of Melbourne Australia, London Oratory Choir, Philadelphia Boys Choir, Sint Bavo Cathedral Choir, Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society, Uppingham Choir, Gonville & Caius Chapel Choir and The Tallis Scholars. In 2016, the Choir sang for King Charles III.
In 2010, the choir was given its own Welsh-language television series, Only Men Aloud, on S4C.
