Sharmila was born into a Reddy political-business family to Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Vijayamma in Hyderabad. [ 13 ] [ 11 ] [ 20 ] She married Morusupalli Anil Kumar [ 21 ] in 1995. [ 22 ] Kumar, born into a Hindu Brahmin family in Telangana, converted to Christianity and now leads Anil World Evangelism.
Later, by undertaking the poll campaign along with her daughter Y. S. Sharmila Reddy, YS Vijaya guided the YSR Congress Party to an unprecedented victory in the June 2012 by-polls in which their party won 15 of the 18 assembly seats [9] for which the polls were held in the absence of her son Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
They had a son Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and a daughter Y. S. Sharmila. [14] His son Jagan and younger brother Y. S. Vivekananda are also politicians. Reddy was a practicing Christian and visited Bethlehem , Palestine , twice.
It was founded by Y. S. Sharmila, the daughter of the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Hyderabad on 8 July 2021. YSRTP was formed due to a conflict of interest between Sharmila and her brother Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. [3] The YSRTP is led by its founder as president of the party.
In October 2012, she was inducted into the 15th Lok Sabha and Manmohan Singh's cabinet as Minister of State, Communications and Information Technology.
