Helvetia, located in Brady Township in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States, was a company mining town that was purchased by the R&P in 1896. The Helvetia Mine quickly became one of the largest producers in the region, dominating the Reynoldsville coalfield for many years. The company town lasted from 1891 to 1947.
c. 1932, the H. C. Frick Coke Company closed and abandoned the Calumet Mine, located in nearby Calumet and sent a number of the miners to the Standard Shaft Mine near Mount Pleasant, and laid off the rest of the coal miners, leaving them to fend for themselves, with no compensation or means of support.
