Desiccation can improve the uniformity of a crop. It may correct for uneven crop growth which is a problem in northern climates, during wet summers, or when weed control is poor. Plants that have naturally reached the end of their maturation may be mingled with plants in earlier stages of growth; controlled desiccation evens that out.
The pesticide manual provides much information on pesticides. [6] [7] Many of the insecticides in the list are not in use. The developer of a pesticide applies for a common name when they intend to sell it, but some nevertheless do not reach the market. Many insecticides have been banned or otherwise withdrawn from the market over the decades.
A trap crop is used for attracting the insect and pests away from a target crop field. Many trap crops have successfully diverted pests from focal crops in small scale greenhouse, garden and field experiments; [ 1 ] a small portion of these plants have been shown to reduce pest damage at larger commercial scales.
Carbaryl is often inexpensively produced by direct reaction of methyl isocyanate with 1-naphthol. [5]C 10 H 7 OH + CH 3 NCO → C 10 H 7 OC(O)NHCH 3. Alternatively, 1-naphthol can be treated with excess phosgene to produce 1-naphthyl chloroformate, which is then converted to carbaryl by reaction with methylamine. [5]
Plants have blue-green leaves and grow to 45 to 100 cm (18 to 39 in) in height. The plant is economically important as a natural source of pyrethrin insecticides. Tanacetum coccineum C. coccineum, the Persian chrysanthemum, is a perennial plant native to Caucasus and looks somewhat like a daisy. It produces large white, pink or red flowers.
Isaria fumosorosea has been used to control insect pests of plants grown for the production of cut flowers, ornamentals growing in greenhouses and nurseries, vegetable and cole crops, cotton, maize, rice and plantation crops. [3] It has also been found to reduce the development and spread of powdery mildew, Sphaerotheca fuliginea, on cucumbers. [6]
