The European route E39 highway passes by Nordfjordeid on its way from Bergen to Ålesund. Norwegian National Road 15 passes through the town on its way from Måløy to Otta. The village of Nordfjordeid was the administrative center of the municipality. Other larger villages in Eid included Mogrenda , Stårheim , Haugen , Kjølsdalen , Heggjabygda , and Lote . At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the 469-square-kilometre (181 sq mi) municipality is the 215th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway.
It is located in the village of Nordfjordeid. It is the church for the Eid parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1849 by the builder Claus Wiese using plans from the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 550 people.
