Jefferson County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,492. [1] Its county seat is Brookville. [2] The county was established on March 26, 1804, from part of Lycoming County and later organized in 1830. [3] It is named after President Thomas Jefferson. [4]

Pennsylvania Route 28 crosses the township, starting in Brockway and leading west to Brookville, the Jefferson county seat. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 41.5 square miles (107.4 km 2 ), of which 41.3 square miles (106.9 km 2 ) are land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km 2 ), or 0.48%, are water. The township is in southeastern Jefferson County, north of Punxsutawney and southwest of Reynoldsville. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 26.3 square miles (68.1 km 2), of which 0.03 square miles (0.09 km 2), or 0.13%, are water. [4]
