The trail, also known under the name Woodland Bay Trail, [2] is the longest in the county. It is approximately 22 miles (35 km) in length [a] and begins at the Woodard Bay Natural Resources Conservation Area and runs mostly south to southeast towards its terminus at the intersection of the Yelm-Rainier-Tenino Trail.
After turning southeast, SR 510 becomes Yelm Avenue and serves Yelm High School. Shortly thereafter, the roadway crosses the Yelm-Tenino Trail, a 7.4-mile (11.9 km) long rail trail in operation since 1993, [11] and ends at First Street, signed as SR 507, which continues southeast as Yelm Avenue. In 1943, SSH 1N, running from Centralia to Tenino, was created. [15] In 1964, a highway renumbering replaced both SSH 5H and SSH 1N with SR 507. [2] [16] WSDOT began construction of safety improvements to a section of SR 507 between Roy and Yelm in 1985 following a higher-than-average rate of collisions, especially those involving trees.
