The city of Douglasville is the county seat of and largest city in Douglas County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 34,650, up from 30,961 in 2010 [5] and 20,065 in 2000. Douglasville is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metro area.
Most government offices in the county are located at the Douglas County Courthouse complex, about 1-mile (1.6 km) south of the downtown area of Douglasville. The exception is the Douglas County Board of Education, located adjacent to Hunter Park. The Douglas County Chamber of Commerce is located in downtown Douglasville.
After being classified as a taxing district in 1880 after a grievous loss of population due to the yellow fever epidemic, Memphis regained home rule in 1893. It established a city commission form of government, which it maintained until 1968. At that time, it established a mayor-council government of thirteen council positions.

In 2023 the Clarksdale, Mississippi Micropolitan area was also added to form the new Memphis-Clarksdale-Forrest City Combined Statistical Area which as of 2023 had a population of roughly 1.4 million people according to census estimates. [3] The greater Mid-South area has a population of 2.4 million, according to 2013 census estimates. [4]
