A Volvo Penta TAMD120 diesel engine, built 1970-1983 Volvo Penta 6-cylinder diesel engine sound. Volvo Penta is a Swedish marine and industrial engine manufacturer, a joint stock company within the Volvo Group. Volvo Penta evolved from a foundry in Skövde 1907, when the first marine engine, the B1, was manufactured.
The B36 was discontinued in 1973, although it was no longer used in trucks after 1966. It was the last petrol truck engine built by Volvo and the only V8 engine used in any vehicle, except for the newer Yamaha-built units used in the Volvo XC90 and S80. A marine version, the Volvo Penta AQ180, was available, featuring 180 hp with twin carburetors.

The 2.5 L (2,490 cc) blocks still had B230 cast in the block.
