Kerala Blasters Football Club (Malayalam: [keːɾɐɭa(ː) bɭaːsteːɻsə̆] ⓘ), commonly referred to simply as Blasters, is an Indian professional football club based in Kochi, Kerala, that competes in the Indian Super League (ISL), the top tier of football in India. Kerala Blasters FC, also known simply as The Blasters is based in Kochi, Kerala, India. The Blasters are one of the most widely supported clubs in Asia and have one of the largest social media following among the football clubs from the continent. [1] This article gives a brief history about the club since its inception to the present.
Kerala Blasters FC is an Indian professional football club that competes in the Indian Super League, the top-tier of Indian football. [1] The club was established on 27 May 2014 and began their first professional season a few months later in October 2014. They play their home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi.
The Kerala Blasters hosted Delhi Dynamos in their first match of the finals at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and won 1–0. In the second leg, the Blasters were defeated 2–1 and thus the score remaining 3–3 on aggregate the match went to a penalty shootout as away goal rule was not applicable in case of Indian Super League. On 16 September 2021, Kerala Blasters launched the Sports Kerala-Kerala Blasters academy in association with the Government of Kerala. [32] As part of a five-year deal, the Blasters is managing a residential football academy for the U-14, U-17 and U-20 categories for boys at the GV Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram. [33] [34]
The 2021–22 season was the eighth season in Kerala Blasters FC's existence, as well as their eighth season in Indian Super League.The 2021–22 Indian Super League season began on 19 November 2021, and it ended on 20 March 2022 with all the matches held in Goa across three venues, same like the previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
