The following table contains video game consoles that have sold at least 1 million units worldwide either through to consumers or inside retail channels. Each console include sales from every iteration unless otherwise noted. The years correspond to when the initial iteration of the console was first released (excluding test markets).
A console table is a table whose top surface is supported by corbels or brackets rather than by the usual four legs. [1] It is thus similar to a supported shelf and is not designed to serve as a stand-alone surface. It is frequently used as pier table (which may have legs of any variety), to abut a pier wall.
The PlayStation 3 (PS3) video game console has been produced in various models during its life cycle. At launch, the PlayStation 3 was available with either a 20 or 60 GB hard disk drive in the US and Japan, respectively— priced from US$499 to US$599; and with either a 40, 60, or 80 GB hard disk drive in Europe, priced from £299 to £425. [1]
Tables can be freestanding or designed for placement against a wall. Tables designed to be placed against a wall are known as pier tables [9] or console table s (French: console, "support bracket") and may be bracket-mounted (traditionally), like a shelf, or have legs, which sometimes imitate the look of a bracket-mounted table.
Microsoft's second console, the Xbox 360, was released in 2005 and has sold 86 million units as of October 2015. The third console, the Xbox One, was released in November 2013 and has sold 58 million units. [4] The fourth line of Xbox consoles, the Xbox Series X and Series S, were released in November 2020.
Inspired by the table tennis game on the Odyssey, Nolan Bushnell, Ted Dabney, and Allan Alcorn at Atari, Inc. developed the first successful arcade game, Pong, and looked to develop that into a home version, which was released in 1975. The first consoles were capable of playing only a very limited number of games built into the hardware.
