Three hundred years ago Elijah, Rebekah and Klaus arrive in the French quarter of New Orleans, along with Finn and Kol daggered in coffins. In the present, Klaus returns to New Orleans after he receives a threatening letter. Elijah searches for Klaus, arriving in New Orleans before him. He finds the witch who called Klaus back, Jane Anne Deveraux.
The deal was to stay and help with Klaus but one of them, Damon or Stefan, had to die and she chose to save Stefan. Stefan informs Bonnie ( Kat Graham ) and Jeremy ( Steven R. McQueen ) about Katherine and asks Bonnie if she can talk to the Martins and make them work with them.
Rose and Elena are rescued by Stefan and Damon who apparently kill Elijah, but Rose warns them that the rest of the Originals will be coming soon. Rose subsequently works with the Salvatore brothers to protect Elena from Klaus, learning in the process that Elijah, who had survived Damon's attack, actually has similar goals.

Elijah calls her bluff but Elena moves on and stabs herself in the stomach. Elijah freaks out, accepts the deal and asks her to let him heal her. When he gets close enough, Elena stabs him with the dagger and Elijah falls dead. Stefan gives Elena his blood to heal her and Damon is also there reminding to not remove the dagger from the body.
