Also called the GM small corporate pattern and the S10 pattern. This pattern has a distinctive odd-sided hexagonal shape. Rear wheel drive applications have the starter mounted on the right side of the block (when viewed from the flywheel) and on the opposite side of the block compared to front wheel drive installations.
Pontiac imported the Canadian market Pontiac Parisienne, which featured the Bonneville's deluxe trim. This car, although a Pontiac in name, was no more than a slightly re-trimmed Caprice . The Parisienne sold in profitable numbers and this car continued in production until 1986 for the sedan, and 1989 for the Safari station wagon.
Platform-mates were the Oldsmobile Delta 88 and, debuting one model year later, the Pontiac Bonneville. The LeSabre used a reverse clamshell hood hinged at the front like the Buick Electra, introduced the year before. The all new flush aerodynamic styling combined with front drive ushered in a new era for the LeSabre.
