In recreational mathematics, arithmetic billiards provide a geometrical method to determine the least common multiple and the greatest common divisor of two natural numbers. It makes use of reflections inside a rectangle which has sides with length of the two given numbers. This is an easy example of trajectory analysis used in dynamical billiards.
The first direction is also true for rectangles, i.e.: If a rectangle s is maximal, then each pair of adjacent edges of s intersects the boundary of P. The second direction is not necessarily true: a rectangle can intersect the boundary of P in even 3 adjacent sides and still not be maximal as it can be stretched in the 4th side.
A rectangle is a rectilinear polygon: its sides meet at right angles. A rectangle in the plane can be defined by five independent degrees of freedom consisting, for example, of three for position (comprising two of translation and one of rotation), one for shape (aspect ratio), and one for overall size (area).
Pentagon – 5 sides; Hexagon – 6 sides Lemoine hexagon; Heptagon – 7 sides; Octagon – 8 sides; Nonagon – 9 sides; Decagon – 10 sides; Hendecagon – 11 sides; Dodecagon – 12 sides; Tridecagon – 13 sides; Tetradecagon – 14 sides; Pentadecagon – 15 sides; Hexadecagon – 16 sides; Heptadecagon – 17 sides; Octadecagon – 18 ...
Once the sides of the rectangle are represented by the algebra tiles, one would then try to figure out which algebra tiles would fill in the rectangle. For instance, if one had x×x, the only algebra tile that would complete the rectangle would be x 2 , which is the answer.
For example, in a polyhedron (3-dimensional polytope), a face is a facet, an edge is a ridge, and a vertex is a peak. Vertex figure: not itself an element of a polytope, but a diagram showing how the elements meet.
Since x 2 represents the area of a square with side of length x, and bx represents the area of a rectangle with sides b and x, the process of completing the square can be viewed as visual manipulation of rectangles. Simple attempts to combine the x 2 and the bx rectangles into a larger square result in a missing corner.
The corresponding angles as well as the corresponding sides are defined as appearing in the same sequence, so for example if in a polygon with the side sequence abcde and another with the corresponding side sequence vwxyz we have vertex angle a appearing between sides a and b then its corresponding vertex angle v must appear between sides v and w.
