The 250 engine continued to be used in GM trucks until 1984, after which it was replaced by the 4.3 L V6 (essentially a 350-cubic-inch (5.7 L) Chevy small-block V8 with the two rear cylinders removed). It was also used in a number of large sedans by Chevrolet of South Africa until 1982.
The Chevrolet Stovebolt engine is a straight-six engine made in two versions between 1929 and 1962 by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors. It replaced the company's 171-cubic-inch (2.8 L) inline-four as their sole engine offering from 1929 through 1954, and was the company's base engine starting in 1955 when it added the small block V8 to the lineup.
The block entered production in mid 1965 as the Mark IV 396 cu in (6.5 L) "Turbo-Jet," phasing out the first-generation W-series Big-Block. In its first year the 396 was available as the L78 option in Corvettes and full-sized ( Impala , Bel Air , Biscayne ) models, and as the L37 in the intermediate ( Chevelle ) model.
A 400 cu in (6.6 L) small-block V8 in a 1975 Avanti II The 400.92 cu in (6,570 cc) 400 is the only engine in this family; it was introduced in 1970 and produced for ten years. It has a 4.125-inch (104.8 mm) bore and a 3.750-inch (95.25 mm) stroke.
The block is changed, with sleeved cylinders in an aluminum block with a larger bore of 4.125 in (104.8 mm) and longer stroke of 4 in (101.6 mm) than the LS2. The small-block's 4.4 in (110 mm) bore spacing is retained, requiring pressed-in cylinder liners.
