The Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), formerly Mithila University, is a public university in India. Beginning in 1972, the university initially functioned from the Mohanpur House at Sara Mohanpur village on the Darbhanga-Sakri route. In 1975, it was shifted to the campus belonging to Raj Darbhanga. LNMU begins from the Medical Faculty of Lviv University, which was opened on November 16, 1784, according to the privilege of the Austrian emperor Josef II. The medical school is named after King Daniel of Galicia, the historical founder of the city in 1256 AD. In 2009 University celebrated its 225 anniversary. [citation needed]
In 2008 it reopened with a new name, Darbhanga College of Engineering, under Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU). In 2011, it became a member of the AKU Family till 15 March 2023. From 15 March 2023 it became a member of BEU Family.

The Lalit Narayan Mithila University has a campus spread over an area of 232 acres that was made available by the Raj family of Darbhanga through land acquisition. The campus is named Kameshwar Nagar in memory of the last Maharaja of Darbhanga , Dr. Sir Kameshwara Singh.
