In the late 19th century, the easternmost part of it became one of the most representative—and the most expensive—areas of the ever-growing city. In the early 20th century, and especially after Poland regained its independence in 1918, the street was extended westwards, and the borough of Wola was eventually incorporated into the city.
Reconstruction began in July 2013 and the building reopened in May 2018 [7] with a 106-room hotel managed by Raffles Hotels & Resorts as Raffles Europejski Warsaw, 3,000 m 2 of retail space on the ground floor, and 6,500 m 2 of Class A office space on the top two floors, [8] 4,000 m 2 of which [9] is operated by WeWork as shared office space.

It is the oldest portion of the city, and contains numerous historic buildings, mostly from 17th and 18th centuries, such as the Royal Castle, city walls, St. John's Cathedral, and the Barbican, the Old Town Market Square and the Warsaw Mermaid Statue [3] [4].
Since the 1970s the district's urban planning has been designed in a way that counterpoints the skyline domination by the Palace. [4] The tallest building in Poland is currently the 310-metre (1,017 ft) tall Varso Tower, in Warsaw, which is also the tallest building in the European Union and the sixth tallest building in Europe. In 1939, the name was changed again, this time to Polonia. After the Second World War, the building was occupied by the Red Army and it set up a military hospital there. In January 1946, the hotel was handed over to the city authorities, which subordinated it to Hotel Miejskie. The building was completely renovated in the years 1969–1972.
