The airport was purchased by the Anchor Hocking company in 1951, then known as Port Lancaster. In 1959 the company began operating a Beechcraft Model 18 factory equipped with rocket-equipped takeoff, replacing two previous Beechcraft planes operated by the company. [9] The airport was donated to the county in 1968.
