This 86.5-foot-long (26.4 m), 18.66-foot-wide (5.69 m), Howe truss bridge was built in 1855. It was renovated by the Works Progress Administration in 1939, and by the city of Philadelphia in 2000. [2] It is the only remaining covered bridge in Philadelphia and is the only covered bridge in a major US city.
The bridge is 103 years old, and it is 494 feet long. This spring, engineers noticed advanced deterioration of some parts of the bridge. The bridge is made of steel and timber.
On April 6, 2001, the reconstructed wooden footbridge was opened, being the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland. The Kapellbrücke is a 204-metre-long (669 ft) bridge crossing the Reuss in the city of Lucerne in Switzerland. It is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, and one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions. [citation needed]
