The Idaho History Center. The Idaho State Historical Society (ISHS) is a historical society located in the U.S. state of Idaho that preserves and promotes the state's cultural heritage. [1] The society was founded as the Historical Society of Idaho Pioneers in 1881, nine years before statehood in 1890, and was established as a state agency in 1907.
In May 1977, the Idaho State Board of Education adopted a resolution requesting that Governor John V. Evans designate the Idaho State University Museum as the Idaho Museum of Natural History (IMNH) and signed into law on July 1, 1977. In 1986, the Idaho State Legislature confirmed the IMNH as Idaho's official state museum of natural history.
The museum was founded on 6 March 1989 by John and Sue Paul. [2] The P-47 Dottie Mae, which was recovered from a lake in Austria in 2005, was restored by Vintage Airframes in Caldwell, Idaho and unveiled in August 2017 at the Warhawk Air Museum's Warbird Roundup. [3] In 2021, it announced plans for an expansion. [4]
